Open Invitation: Thanksgiving, 2013

Some folks don't have a Thanksgiving gathering to go to.

When I began Incongruous Circumspection, I wrote a lot, directed toward those coming out of fundamentalism, especially young people. Over the years, getting to know these dear people, it has become commonplace for them to be rejected by either or both sides of a family, if coupled, or their own family, if single. Even friends ostracize them - even publicly.

I've been there. I know how it feels to look at each other across the room and decide to make your own memories, starting fresh. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it's the best feeling on the face of the earth.

But, more importantly, the ability to be spontaneous and do new things to take your mind off of fresh wounds, is worth more than its weight in gold.

So...come to my house. We have 4800 square feet of Victorian mansion, three floors, five bathrooms,  plenty of beds and floor space to bed down, ample room on our half-acre property for kids to run around, good hotels in the area, even good restaurants.  Whatever...just show up on Thursday, November 28, Thanksgiving Day.

RSVP via email first. And bring something. The focus won't be on food. It will be on us - together, enjoying a day.

If you need a carrot, Melissa Permission to Live has already RSVP'd. If you ever wanted to meet her and her wife and four adorable brats, now is the time.

  1. :) Wouldn't miss it. :) I thought the carrot was going to be for me, I didn't realize I was going to be the appeal.
